7 Sweet Bedtime Prayers for Kids and Parents

Taylor Darago • 5 minutes

As parents, we always want “the best” for our kids. We want the best school, the best friends, the best treatment, the best “fill in the blank for your situation.”

But what do we do when we’ve done all we can to provide “the best” for our kids, and they come home saying they are lonely, afraid, or hurt? We look to the one who is in control: God.

Trusting God With Your Kids

As parents, we’re often faced with circumstances that we don’t know how to navigate. We want protection, healing, and provision for our children, but there’s only so much we can do on our own. And that’s where trust comes in.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

It is a daily choice for us as parents to trust God with healing, protection, love, and connections for our children.

It is a daily choice for us as parents to trust God with healing, protection, love, and connections for our children. And we can lean into that trust when we choose to pray.

7 Bedtime Prayers for Kids

Read through these seven bedtime prayers for kids and families below to end your day in “the best” way.

1. A Bedtime Prayer for Your Kid

Father, Your love is everlasting. Your love is infinite. I pray my child always knows how loved and cherished they are. As they go to sleep tonight, I pray that they feel loved and seen by You. You love in the big and small moments, and I pray that on normal days and hard days, my child knows and feels Your love for them. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2. A Prayer for Your Child’s Safety

God, I come to You today to ask for protection for my children. This world has a lot of unknowns. This world has a lot of hurt. But You, God, have a lot of redemption. I pray for physical, mental, and emotional protection over my children. Physically, I pray for their safety at school, at friends’ houses, and during extracurriculars. Mentally, God, I pray that they would not be consumed by the things of this world. I pray that You will protect their eyes and ears from worldly expectations and temptations. Emotionally, I pray that my child will feel safe to bring their emotions, not only to us as parents, but to You as well.

I pray that their heart would be protected from heartbreak and disappointment. I pray that, as a parent, I will continue to cast my worries and fears on You. I trust You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

3. A Prayer for a Good Night’s Sleep for Your Child

Lord, I pray that You would help my child get a good night’s sleep. Ease their fears or frustrations and provide them with the rest they need to face the day with energy and confidence. Please give them good dreams, and help them know they’re always loved and cared for by You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

4. A Prayer for Wisdom as a Parent

Father, today I need Your wisdom. My child is going through a difficult time, and I don’t know how to help them. Please, provide me with clarity to understand what’s happening and direction to know what we should do next. I’m leaning on You—give me confidence for my next steps. In Jesus’ name, amen.

5. A Prayer for a Lonely Child

God, I pray that my child would find good friends. Lead them to kids who will uplift them and encourage them to be who You created them to be. God, I pray these new friendships would be safe and life-giving. Please give them the confidence needed to meet new people. In Jesus’ name, amen.

6. A Prayer for Joy for Your Child

Father, my child has had a rough couple of days. I pray that You would fill them with true joy. I pray that You would give them laughter, connection, and excitement over the things that used to uplift them. God, they are filled with so much life and purpose. I pray that they would feel that tonight, and that tomorrow will be a fresh start that begins with joy. In Jesus’ name, amen.

7. A Prayer for Your Child’s Future

Lord, I pray for my child’s future. You created them with so much purpose, and I pray that they would step into exactly who You have made them to be. I pray that as they grow, You would provide them with safety and security. I pray that You would surround them with friends and family who uplift them. I pray that they would come to know You intimately. And I pray that they will pursue You with passion and curiosity. In Jesus’ name, amen.
