3 Simple Tips to Help You Spread the Gospel

Have you ever wanted to share the gospel, but you didn’t know where to start?

Maybe you’ve felt that nudge from the Holy Spirit, but the words just didn't want to come out. Or maybe you’re worried about stepping out of your comfort zone, afraid you might say the wrong thing.

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Sharing the gospel can feel overwhelming, but the process can be simpler than you might think.

Quick Start Guide to Sharing Your Faith

  1. Remember: You’re not responsible for outcomes. God is.
  2. Keep it human: Your life, your words, your kindness matter more than arguments.
  3. Pay attention: Everyday conversations are often where God is already at work.
  4. Point to Jesus: You don’t need all the answers. Just keep His life and love at the center.

Before you keep reading, let’s clear something up.

Sharing the gospel isn’t a sales pitch. Instead, it’s an invitation into a way of life Jesus called the kingdom of God. A life shaped by love, truth, and hope that starts now and continues beyond this one.

3 Ways to Prepare Yourself to Share the Gospel

Before you can effectively share Christ with others, it helps to prepare your heart and mind. Here are three ways to prepare yourself to share the gospel.

1. Reflect on the Gospel

Before you think about sharing the gospel with anyone else, it helps to stop and notice what it’s actually been doing in you.

For a lot of us, the gospel can slowly turn into facts we explain instead of something that’s shaping how we think, live, and love. We know the words and we’ve heard the story, but we don’t always pause long enough to ask how Jesus’ way of life has been changing our instincts, our reactions, or the way we treat people.

The gospel isn’t about becoming a better rule follower. It’s about being drawn into the life Jesus lived. A life defined by love, patience, courage, and trust in God. And that kind of life-change usually shows up in ordinary moments, over time.

So before you try to share anything, reflect. Where has the gospel softened your reactions? Where has it helped you forgive? Where has it challenged you to love? Ask the Holy Spirit to bring those places to mind.

When you share how the gospel has actually changed you, it doesn't feel like a pitch, it just feels like telling the truth about how God has changed you.

2. Live With Integrity and Love

If Christians talk about God's love and forgiveness, but don't see us living with love and forgiveness, then why would they listen to us?

If Christians talk about God's love and forgiveness, but don't see us living with love and forgiveness, then why would they listen to us?

Jesus himself said that the world would know we're Christians by how we love. Not by our arguments, three-step evangelism plan, or Bible facts. But by our love.

Living with integrity and love isn’t about being impressive or getting it right all the time. It’s about learning to live the way Jesus lived and letting Him shape how you speak, treat people, and how you handle things like pressure, disappointment, or success.

When your life reflects Jesus in quiet, consistent ways, people notice. Kind of like how Daniel influences the people around him. Not because you’re trying to stand out, but because something about you feels different.

3. Pray for Opportunities and Boldness

If you want to effectively share the gospel, ask God for help.

Pray for opportunities to talk about Jesus and pray for boldness to step into those moments when they come. The Holy Spirit is with you, guiding your words and preparing hearts to hear the message of salvation.

You might be surprised by how often God answers this prayer in everyday situations. It could be during a casual conversation at work, in your small group (or LifeGroup), or while waiting in line at the gas station.

When you invite God into these moments, you’ll find that He provides the right words to speak—and the courage to say them.

3 Tips to Help You Spread the Gospel

Now that you’re prepared, here are three simple tips to help you spread the gospel:

1. Start With Your Story

One of the most powerful ways to share Christ is by sharing your life story. You don’t need to be a Bible scholar to explain how God’s work has changed your life. Just be authentic.

Share about how you came to trust Christ, how you’ve experienced God’s love, and how Jesus has brought peace and hope into your life. As you share, remember that following Jesus isn’t a walk in the park. Don’t be afraid to share about the struggles, doubts, and hard times you’ve experienced as a Christian.

Remember, everyone has fallen short of God’s glory, but Jesus died for our sins so we could have eternal life. Your story isn’t about how perfect you are—it’s about how God’s grace saved you. Sharing your journey with honesty and humility can open the door to deeper spiritual conversations.

2. Focus on Jesus

When you share the gospel, it’s easy to get caught up in trying to explain everything perfectly. But the heart of the Christian gospel is simple: God created us to have a relationship with Him, but our sins separate us from His presence.

Jesus Christ, God’s one and only Son, came to Earth, lived a perfect life, and died on the cross for our sins. But Christ didn’t stay dead—He rose again, offering forgiveness, hope, and eternal life to everyone who trusts in Him.

Remember, it’s not your job to “save” anyone—that’s God’s job.

Focus on this simple truth when you talk to non-Christians. You don’t have to answer every question or solve every doubt. Just point people to Jesus and let the Holy Spirit do the rest. Remember, it’s not your job to “save” anyone—that’s God’s job. Your role is to faithfully share the message and trust Christ to move in their hearts.

3. Keep the Conversation Going

Sharing the gospel isn’t about winning an argument or convincing someone on the spot. Sometimes, people won’t respond the way you hope they will—and that’s okay. Don’t get frustrated or discouraged. Instead, be patient and keep the conversation going over time.

Make yourself available for future conversations and continue to live out your faith with integrity. Remember, the Holy Spirit is at work even when you don’t see immediate results. Your consistency and willingness to listen can create an open door for someone to hear the gospel message when they’re ready.

You’re Not Alone in This

Spreading the gospel might feel intimidating, but you’re not doing it alone. The Holy Spirit is working in and through you.

Whether you’re sharing with a friend, a family member, or even a stranger, remember that the gospel message is powerful because it’s the truth about God’s love and forgiveness.

So, start talking. Share your story. Pray for boldness. Live with integrity. And keep your focus on Jesus. Because when you share the gospel, you’re offering something that lasts forever: the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Reflect or Discuss:

  • Sharing your story is a powerful way to share the gospel. What part of your personal faith story do you think could encourage someone else right now?
  • Which of the three preparation steps—reflecting on the gospel, living with integrity, or praying for opportunities—do you feel most confident in? Which one do you want to grow in this week?
  • It’s God’s job to save people—our job is to simply share the good news. How does this truth take the pressure off when talking about Jesus?
