7 Simple Prayers to Heal Broken Relationships

Sam Larrabee • 6 minutes

It’s hard to describe the ache that comes when a relationship breaks. Maybe it’s a friend you don’t talk to anymore, a parent you’ve grown distant from, or a marriage that’s felt stuck for a while.

Maybe a single experience broke the relationship, or maybe it’s been a drawn-out, painful process. Either way, you’re not alone.

The seven simple prayers below are meant to help you find hope, peace, and a way forward. Think of them as conversation starters with God. Use them to kick off your prayer time with honesty.

Finding Comfort in God When Relationships Break

When a relationship breaks, it can leave an ache that shows up in unexpected ways.

You might miss the laughter, the late-night talks, or just knowing someone understood you. Broken relationships remind us how fragile our connections can be, and that’s an uncomfortable reality to sit with.

But God never asks us to carry that pain alone.

The Bible tells us that He’s “close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18 NIV).

When you talk to Him about your hurt, you’re not rambling into the void. You’re being heard by a Father who understands what loss and grief feel like.

Jesus understands this pain firsthand.

Whenever Jesus had the chance, He offered forgiveness, grace, and an open door for a relationship to begin again.

Yet whenever Jesus had the chance, He offered forgiveness, grace, and an open door for a relationship to begin again. That same grace is available to you. God can take what feels broken and begin the process of healing, even if it takes time.

So before you pray for reconciliation or clarity, take a moment to rest in His love. Let His presence steady you, and allow His peace to remind you that you’re seen, known, and never forgotten.

7 Prayers for Broken Relationships

Prayer is simply talking with God, and He’s ready to listen.

You don’t need to say everything perfectly or know exactly what to pray for. These seven prayers are here to help you start that conversation.

Feel free to change the words to fit your story and invite God to bring comfort, healing, and peace to your relationships.

1. A Prayer for a Broken Relationship

When a relationship breaks, it can leave us feeling confused, sad, and alone. You might not even know where to begin, but God does. He invites you to bring your pain to Him and trust that His love is strong enough to hold you and the other person.

Prayer:
Dear God, You see the hurt between us. You know every word, every moment, and every misunderstanding that led us here. Please heal what’s broken and soften our hearts toward each other. Help us forgive, even if the relationship needs to change. Teach me to rest in Your peace as You restore what You will. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2. A Prayer for a Broken Marriage

Marriage is one of the most powerful reflections of God’s love, but sometimes it can feel fragile and uncertain. Don’t lose hope. God is close, and He cares about both of you.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, You created marriage to be a picture of Your love. Right now, we feel far apart. Please help us listen, forgive, and love again. Heal what’s been damaged and remind us that we’re on the same team. Give us patience when change is slow and hope when the road feels long. Restore our marriage through Your strength and fill our home with peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.

3. A Prayer for a Broken Friendship

Losing a friend can feel like losing part of yourself. The laughter, the memories, the trust; it all leaves a space that can feel impossible to fill. So what do we do next? We ask God for help, humility, and a path toward healing.

Prayer:
Father, You know how much this friendship meant to me. You also know how we’ve hurt each other and what’s been said and left unsaid. Please heal the pain in both our hearts and bring understanding. Help me release the past and any bitterness in me. Thank You for hearing me and always staying close. In Jesus’ name, amen.

4. A Prayer for Forgiveness

Forgiveness doesn’t mean pretending the hurt didn’t happen. It means choosing to release the weight of anger so that healing can begin.

Prayer:
Father, You know how much this has hurt me. I want to forgive, but I don’t always know how. Please help me let go of bitterness and choose grace instead. Remind me how deeply You’ve forgiven me so I can extend that same grace to others. In Jesus’ name, amen.

5. A Prayer for Reconciliation

Some relationships can be restored, and others take time. Reconciliation begins when we let God work in both hearts and trust His timing.

Prayer:
Lord, I don’t know how to fix what’s broken between us, but You do. Please make a way where there seems to be no way. I ask that You would bring us back together in honesty and love. Help us speak with kindness and listen with understanding. Teach us how to rebuild trust in a way that honors You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

6. A Prayer for Humility

Pride can keep us from saying what needs to be said or hearing what needs to be heard. Healing often starts with humility, which means acknowledging our part and being willing to grow.

Prayer:
Dear God, help me see where I’ve been wrong. Give me courage to apologize sincerely and wisdom to listen with compassion. Confront any excuses I might be making and help me release my pride to You. Let Your Spirit guide my words so that what I say builds bridges instead of walls. In Jesus’ name, amen.

7. A Prayer for Relational Healing

Even when reconciliation isn’t possible, God can still bring healing to our hearts and help us be open to new relationships.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, You see every wound and every piece of my story. I’ve felt emotionally wounded by this experience, but I don’t want to close myself off. Please heal my heart and mind so I can pursue healthy relationships again. Help me trust Your goodness and believe that nothing is beyond Your power to redeem. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Finding Hope in God’s Healing

Healing may not happen overnight, and it may not look the way we expect, but it is possible.

As you continue to pray, ask God to help you show love, speak with kindness, and fill your thoughts with peace. Trust that He’s working in ways you might not see right away. No matter what the future looks like, His presence can lead you toward healing.
