Ladies, I think I can speak for all of us when I say we daydream about who we’re going to marry probably a little bit more than we’d like to admit. What does our dream guy look like? Can he cook? How are his foot rubs? How will I know when I meet him? I’ve decided it’s too hard to think of all the kinds of guys worth spending my entire life with. To help you out, I’ve created a simple list of guys you shouldn’t marry.
Sometimes it’s easier to know who you should hang on to when you fully understand who you should let go. The scary part is you might be dating someone who’s never going to be right for you. Dating is not the place for “till death do us part.” That’s something else to save for marriage. With God’s help, you can find the courage to break off something that’s not going where you want you to be. Ready to learn who you should send packing?
5 Guys You Shouldn’t Marry
- The guy who makes you question yourself. I’m not talking about someone who lovingly encourages you as you overcome your rough edges or your bad habits. That’s wonderful! But if a guy belittles your looks, your passions, or makes you feel less than, it’s time to let go. Your confidence should depend solely on who Christ says you are. (Ephesians 2:10)
- The guy who makes all the decisions. A good relationship is one where both parties learn from and value each other’s opinions. Decision making should come from a mutual agreement or mutual trust. Not always just what your guy thinks is best. (Proverbs 28:26)
- The guy who doesn’t make you a priority. Sometimes you realize the guy you’re dating is more into his phone or his favorite NFL team than giving you the time of day. Ladies, you are worth so much more! You deserve to be pursued. (Proverbs 31:10)
- The guy who can’t keep his cool. Anger can be like fire—don’t play with fire. Unresolved anger can lead to bitterness, resentment, and ultimately tear apart relationships. (James 1:19-20)
- The guy who distracts you from Christ. This is the biggest deal breaker of all. Bottom line: your partner should be pushing you closer to God, not pulling you away! (Hebrews 10:24) No exceptions. If you’re still making excuses right now, just stop. Trust me—it doesn’t work. It won’t work. It’s time to let him go.
