What Does the Bible Say About Protection

Let’s look at some of the positive, encouraging things the Bible says about praying for God’s protection. These truths can help you pray with boldness:

  • God is near when you call on Him.
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18 NIV
  • God is your refuge and safe place.
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1 NIV
  • God’s protection brings peace.
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8 NIV
  • God is your shield and defender.
You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Psalm 32:7 NIV
  • Nothing can separate you from God’s love.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 NIV

Does Praying for Protection Mean Nothing Bad Will Happen?

No. The Bible doesn’t promise that people who pray for protection will never experience danger, illness, accidents, violence, or loss. Christians believe God can protect us from harm, and the Bible contains plenty of stories where He does. But it also contains faithful people who suffer even after asking God for help.
