What Does the Bible Say About New Beginnings?
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV
The Book of Isaiah was written about 700 years before the coming of Jesus. This passage was written to the Hebrews in captivity in Babylon, desperate to be set free. They were in physical captivity. But a new beginning was coming.
For the people in exile, this fresh start was great news! But it wasn’t easy. They’d lived in exile for decades. Many probably grew comfortable in their routines. So, while the return home was undoubtedly welcome, it also likely created discomfort, anxiety, and resistance.
Breaking With the Old
When we start something new, we often stop doing something familiar. It’s natural for us to feel at least a little anxious over breaking old routines, moving away from close friends, or stepping out of a job we’ve been in for years.
Life changes, but God doesn’t.
Life changes, but God doesn’t. We’ll always have to go through new beginnings, but we can always trust the one constant in our lives—God.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8 NIV
So put your hope and trust in Him. He will be your constant companion through every life change you encounter.
