Have you ever been overwhelmed by emotion? Whether you’re dealing with a lump in your throat, a rage in your head, or a belly laugh that bubbles over, you may find yourself listening to a particular song on repeat when you’re feeling all the feels.
The Bible has a lot to say about our feelings, too. Did you know there are verses that speak directly to our anger, anxiety, happiness, fear, loneliness and even hopelessness? Really dive in, and you’ll find words that comfort or even provide instruction on how to handle emotions.
Music serves as a great outlet whether we are suffering or celebrating. Here’s a playlist of awesome songs to articulate some of the most influential emotions we humans deal with. We’ve also paired each song with some powerful biblical truths.
Playlist for When You’re Feeling All the Feels:
Hopeless – Heartbreak Dreamer by Mat Kearney reminds us that even though we might have to endure heartaches that shake our hope, we don’t lose hope because love is leading us. Hope is trusting that God understands, is with us, and is working things together for our good—because He loves us. (Romans 5:1-4)
Lonely – Let The Feeling by Ben Rector inspire you to put yourself out there. You are not alone in your struggles. One big lie of loneliness is that you’re the only one in your predicament. Not true! You have a lot to offer. Get involved in a local church and be an active part of the body. We need you. At Life.Church we ask everyone to find a LifeGroup and Connect Locally. (Romans 12:4-6)
Scared – Bethel Music’s No Longer Slaves speaks triumph over our fear. We can proudly declare that we are no longer slaves to our trembling. Seeking God in the midst of our storms allows us to confidently stand on His promise to be with us in any circumstance. (John 14:27)
Anxious – You Are Enough by Sleeping At Last is an encouraging ditty that celebrates our completeness in Jesus. We may be frail on our own, but with Christ, we are enough! The song reminds us that God is in control and that He cares about even the smallest details in our lives. We combat worry by trusting in the promises of God. (Philippians 4:6)
Mad – More Heart, Less Attack by NeedtoBreathe is a soothing song fueled by deep-rooted feelings. We all get angry, but it’s important to get rid of rage as soon as possible. (Ephesians 4:26) Don’t feed your anger. The best way to combat our anger is with love. (1 Corinthians 13:5)
